Having just finished reading BE The True Rich, I can
confidently say that Chukwuemeka Michael Onwuta has written far
more than a finance book—it’s a guide to a complete mental reset
around money and wealth.
What struck me most was how honestly he draws from his own
breaking point: Struggling with startups in both Nigeria and Ghana.
Rather than blaming bad luck or a harsh business environment, he
reframes these experiences as a lack of financial intelligence. That
perspective alone challenges many of the excuses we often use to
explain financial struggles.
The book is structured around the BE–DO–HAVE principle,
which turns the traditional pursuit of success on its head. Onwuta
argues that many people fail because they try to have the symbols of
wealth—luxury cars, watches, lifestyles—by copying the doings of
rich people, without first being the kind of person who truly
understands money. His message is clear: Stop trying to look rich
and start learning how to actually BE rich, by focusing on assets that
put money in your pocket rather than liabilities that drain it.
While the book draws inspiration from mentors like Robert
Kiyosaki, it stands on its own by emphasizing practical tools for
building financial intelligence and challenging common
misconceptions about wealth.
A mindset shift is the foundation of everything. One idea I found
particularly powerful is his emphasis on the power of the tongue—
simply asking, “How can I afford it?” forces the mind to search for
creative solutions and take action. He also stresses the importance of
moving beyond saving into investing, pointing out that merely
having money does not make you rich; building systems that grow
money does.
The discussion on good debt versus bad debt was another
standout. He demystifies the fear of debt by clearly distinguishing
between bad debt (used for lifestyle and consumption) and good
debt (used to acquire income-generating assets). He even argues that true wealth often requires learning how to responsibly leverage
Other People’s Money (OPM).
Ultimately, BE the True Rich teaches that money is simply the
fuel that runs the engine—it is not the engine itself. True riches come
from the value you create, the integrity you maintain, and the
financial intelligence you apply to keep wealth flowing. It’s a fast,
punchy, and thought-provoking read that pushes you to stop making
excuses and start laying the foundation for real, sustainable wealth.

In BE The True Rich, Chukwuemeka Michael Onwuta presents
a compelling synthesis of personal finance principles and profound
life lessons aimed at redefining our understanding of wealth. This
book is far more than a mere manual for financial success; it is a
philosophical treatise on the essence of being truly rich by
encompassing holistic personal development, social responsibility,
and the cultivation of a wealth mindset.
From the outset, Onwuta asserts that the pursuit of wealth must
extend beyond material accumulation. He provocatively challenges
readers to reconsider what it means to be ‘rich,’ positing instead that
true wealth lies in one’s character, relationships, and the positive
impact one has on others. His emphasis on the moral and ethical
dimensions of wealth is particularly timely and resonates with the
increasing global discourse surrounding sustainability and social
equity.
Onwuta deftly articulates ten powerful tools through which
individuals can elevate their financial standing. Among them, the
power of affirmative speech emerges as a transformative concept.
He encourages readers to harness the strength of their words to
reshape their reality—a notion that echoes the principles touted by
influential thinkers such as Og Mandino and Tony Robbins. These
initial chapters are laden with practical wisdom that compels the
reader to engage in self-reflection, questioning the narratives they tell
themselves and the limitations they impose. One of the most provocative tenets in the book is “Go Deep into
Debt if You Want to be Truly Rich,” a concept that challenges
conventional financial wisdom. Onwuta delineates the critical
distinction between “bad debt” and “good debt,” encouraging astute
investment in assets that yield returns. This perspective not only
serves to empower readers to take calculated risks but also positions
them to leverage growth opportunities—an approach praised by
financial moguls such as Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump.
Throughout the narrative, Onwuta underscores the importance
of mindfulness in financial stewardship. In a world where
consumerism often trumps prudence, he implores readers to adopt
a disciplined and intentional approach to wealth building. Such
counsel is particularly relevant in today’s globalised economy,
wherein the impulse to conform to societal standards of success can
often lead to detrimental financial choices.
The gratitude expressed throughout the book—a heartfelt
dedication to family, mentors, and friends—invokes a sense of
community that is vital in our increasingly fragmented world.
Onwuta’s recognition of the familial and societal bonds that
contribute to one’s journey reinforces the notion that wealth is not
merely an individual pursuit but a collective endeavour.
As I turned the pages of this rich text, I found myself continually
inspired by Onwuta’s call to action. He invites us all to foster a
mindset rooted in purpose, integrity, and impact. The reader is not
left with theoretical knowledge alone; rather, Onwuta equips us with
actionable insights that can affect real change in our financial
behaviours and overall life philosophies.
In conclusion, BE The True Rich deserves a prominent place
on the shelves of anyone seeking to redefine their relationship with
wealth—be it entrepreneurs, students, or seasoned professionals. Its
universal message transcends cultural and economic boundaries,
making it a vital read for a global audience. I wholeheartedly
recommend this book to all and sundry, as it has the potential to transform lives and foster a deeper understanding of the true
richness of our interconnected world.

BE The True Rich by Chukwuemeka Onwuta is a typical
awakening of the enshrouded real-me-embedded-in-me syndrome.
It is a roller coaster of pathways to realizing those hidden strengths
that may have been subdued from sheer ignorance or superiority
complexes that invariably hold you back from exploring the available
El-Dorado in financial intelligence. His style of writing is fashioned
with everyday folklore while buttressing it with ideologies from
seasoned inspirational speakers of renowned financial intelligence
giants. In conclusion, this is a must-read for all who care for their
personal growth.

I have been in business for some years, and most of the nuggets
in this book resonate with my values. I have read many business
books, but BE The True Rich is one book with too many lessons.
Reading this book is one favour I just did myself; Chukwuemeka
Onwuta exposes the secret of building a business with debt (Good
debt). This book reinforces my belief in generosity, the backbone of
every TRUE RICH; a selfless change of mindset from corporation
to competition. This book is a cure for anyone with an incurable
entitlement mentality.
I recommend this book to anyone who doesn’t only want to be
Rich, but BE The True Rich.

The book is a complete eye-opener, or what I will call a reminder,
just like Chukwuemeka Onwuta said in his book, that most of what
is there is not new. The book BE The True Rich encourages every
reader on the kind of mindset they should have towards wealth and
how they can build their wealth rightly through the right channels,
instead of trying to cut corners.
I learnt a whole lot from the book, and part of it is that gambling
can’t make one wealthy, and that is part of why the book is a must-
read for the youths of this generation, as many are invested in
gambling, thinking that that’s the way to wealth.
If I may add to the book, I would say that people must avoid
quick wealth schemes like Ponzi schemes and the like because, at the
end of the day, they will lose their money, as building wealth has
patterns, and quick wealth schemes are not part of it.

Main Lessons in Simple Words
1. Change your mindset.
Stop saying “I can’t afford it.”
Start asking, “How can I afford it?”
2. Money is not your main problem.
Lack of ideas and strategy is the real problem.
3. Saving alone will not make you rich.
Investing builds wealth.
4. Use debt wisely.
Borrow to buy things that make money, not things that
take money.
5. Talent is not enough.
You must understand how money works.
6. Don’t gamble.
Wealth is built slowly and intelligently.
7. Be generous and build teams.
Rich people create value for others.
